Eyesight is precious. That’s why we donate $25 from each pair sold from our new limited‑edition frames, designed in collaboration with Tā moko artist Moko Smith to The Fred Hollows Foundation NZ. So they can continue their sight saving work in the Pacific.

Two pairs of limited edition, green pounamu inspired glasses are displayed on a rock.

Moko's inspiration behind the frames

“These frames draw inspiration from the Māori relationship to Pounamu, a stone that holds a special place in our culture because it is tied to our mythology, history, and our art and crafts. Jewellery was made with it to adorn high chiefs, and it also offered a superior hardness to carve adzes, weapons, canoes and houses. Pounamu is only found in the cold waters of the South Island of Aotearoa New Zealand, which Māori name is Te Waipounamu, literally, the waters of Pounamu.

With these references in mind, we have chosen a variegated green tortoise acetate that reflects the flecked inclusions of Pounamu and the beauty of light shining through it. The Taratara notching pattern on the temples is an acknowledgement of the many generations before us and those yet to come, while also referencing the woodworking tradition Pounamu has helped to advance. The Karu o te Whenua pattern on the inside of the temple speaks to the many people taking care of our culture and heritage, while acknowledging the importance of eye health.” – Moko Smith
