Can ultraviolet (UV) light harm the eye?

Answer: 

Overexposure to Ultraviolet (UV) light contributes to a number eye problems including photokeratitis, cataract, cancer of the skin around the eye and may contribute to age related macular degeneration. Sunglasses with an  appropriate UV filter can give good protection from the damaging effects of UV.
