Firstly DON'T rub the affected eye! If the foreign body is not automatically washed away by the increased flow of tears or by bathing the eye it is recommended that an eye examination at casualty is sought out as soon as possible, particularly if the object cannot be seen. Try to keep the affected eye shut until you are seen.
