If your child is starting eye patching, they will not like the experience of wearing a patch - especially as it prevents them using the eye with good vision. If they are attending pre-school or full-time education they may find other children react differently, although they may not need to wear the patch at all times and you should discuss this with the orthoptist or optometrist who is advising you.

Children will need reassurance and encouragement to help them understand in simple terms why the patch will make their vision better.
