A comprehensive eye test at Specsavers includes a thorough examination of the front and back of the eye and we include an advanced OCT 3D eye scan as part of every eye test to help our optometrists detect eye conditions in their earliest stages, long before you notice any symptoms.

First, one of our trained team members will run some pre-tests to provide your optometrist with important information to help them assess the health of your eyes. These tests include measuring your eye pressure, the curvature and thickness of your cornea and your approximate vision, as well as an advanced OCT 3D eye scan and images of the back of your eye.

Your optometrist will then ask you questions about any problems you're having with your eyes or vision, or might have had in the past, and about any family history of eye problems (as some eye conditions can be hereditary). They’ll discuss the results of your pre-test and check your vision by performing a refraction test to figure out your prescription. Your prescription, if you require one, is the power of lens for your right and left eye which will help correct your vision.

Using a powerful microscope, called a slit lamp, and a lens your optometrist will also perform a comprehensive check of the front and back of your eyes to assess your eye health. Depending on the results of your eye test, you might need additional assessments to help your optometrist accurately advise you on your eye health.

After your optometrist has finished their clinical testing, they’ll discuss their findings with you and provide you with recommendations, taking into consideration your vision and any eye health requirements you may have.

All of your tests results are kept on file so that your optometrist can monitor changes in your vision and eye health over time.
